Intro to the Warcraft Chess Variant, the Mark of the Illidari
The Mark of the Illidari is a chess variant for two players that was created by Illidan Stormrage in the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne era. The objective of the game is to capture all of your opponent’s pieces or to stalemate them.
The game is played on a 9×9 board with each player commanding 9 pieces: a King, two Knights, two Bishops, and five Rooks.
The pieces move along the eight cardinal directions, and can only move either forward or backward. Pawns cannot move diagonally but can cross into other players’ territory to make captures.
To make a capture, your piece moves onto the square next to where your opponent’s piece is currently located. If your piece is able to reach both squares simultaneously (and isn’t blocked by another piece), it captures both pieces.
There are no reinforcements available in this game – once one piece has been captured, it’s gone for good!
The game can be quite complex to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it it’s a fun and fast-paced way to play chess.
The Mark of the Illidari has popularized again in World of Warcraft through its use as one of Illidan Stormrage’s talents in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack.
Strategy and Gameplay of the Mark of the Illidari
The Mark of the Illidari is one of the most powerful and unique item mods in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. It provides a variety of powerful bonuses, all centered around increasing your damage output.
One of the most important aspects of playing with the Mark is knowing how to use its abilities effectively. The first ability, Massacre, allows you to deal massive damage to an enemy unit after attacking it once.
This ability can easily kill large units if used correctly, so be sure to target specific enemies when using it.
The second ability, Mind Blast, is a spell that deals damage to an enemy unit and also stuns it for a short amount of time.
This can be used as an interrupt or to disable an enemy’s abilities for a brief moment. Combined with Massacre, Mind Blast can easily take down enemies who are unprepared.
The final ability is called Vile Unholy Ritual. This ability causes your next 3 spells to deal increased damage and also slow the target’s movement speed by 50%. Use this ability against enemies who are trying to flee or against weakened units who are easy prey.
Pros and Cons of Playing this
Pros and Cons of Playing the Mark of the Illidari
The Mark of the Illidari is one of the most versatile mounts in the Wrath of the Lich King Classic. It has a lot of pros, but there are also a few cons to consider.
The main pro is that it allows you to easily move around the map and quickly reach your destination. The con is that it’s fairly low health, so you need to be careful when engaging enemies.
Overall, the Mark of the Illidari is a powerful mount that can help you survive in difficult circumstances.
What to do if You’re Obliterated by a Marked Player
If you are obliterated by a marked player, your account will be flagged and you may not be able to play for a period of time.
The best course of action is to contact Blizzard customer service and explain the situation. If you have any screenshots or video evidence of the incident, please submit it as well.
Closing Thoughts
With the release of Wrath of the Lich King, many Illidari players have been pondering one question: what class would be best suited for raiding with the iconic race? Warlock is a strong candidate for many reasons.
The bonuses to spell damage and health make them well-suited to taking on bosses quickly and efficiently, while also enjoying significant benefits from abilities like [Metamorphosis].
Additionally, they can easily spec into other areas of the game that may be beneficial in raid encounters – like [The Black Arts] – providing they are available.
The warrior may also be a viable choice, but they lack some key advantages that Warlock enjoys. For example, Warlocks benefit significantly from [Metamorphosis], which allows them to adapt their playstyle to the fight rather than being locked into a specific role.
In addition, Warlocks have access to powerful defensive cooldowns such as [Defile] which can help reduce the amount of damage taken by allies.
As such, we recommend that any player considering playing an Illidari character consider either a Warlock or Warrior if they are looking to raid with this race in Wrath of the Lich King.
