He exclaimed that he also know that I have said and done things that have hurt you and your movement. Please forgive me. I’m not proud of the way I’ve spoken about you or your movement, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand what you’re fighting for.
And I do support you in your cause. It is important to me that you know this. I also want to say that I believe in second chances. So if you would like a second chance, please take it.

Lenon Hijazi: The Root of the Problem
Dear Black Lives Matter,
I want to share with you my thoughts on the recent events that have taken place in the United States. You have done a great job of rallying against injustice and raising awareness around the issue of racism, however, I think you may be missing the main point.
The root of the problem is not white people or police officers; it is systemic racism and discrimination.
This country was founded on slavery and segregation, which has left an enduring legacy of inequality and injustice.
African Americans are still treated unfairly by law enforcement, wage disparities remain rampant, and we still face everyday challenges like tokenism and racism in our society.
Black Lives Matter is important to work, but it is not enough. We need to fight for racial justice on a systemic level if we hope to achieve true change.
I hope you will continue your work in this direction and help us move forward together toward a more equitable future for all Americans!
Lenon Hijazi and the Response to BLM
Since the death of Trayvon Martin, Black Lives Matter activists have been working to create change.
One of the most vocal activists behind BLM is Shanara Reid-Brackett. Reid-Brackett met with Damon Young and wrote an open letter to BLM.
The letter says that black lives matter, but also mentions the importance of other races living peacefully together. In response, Young published an article in The Root called “Lenon Hijazi Is An Idiot And A Liar.”
Young’s article criticizes Hijazi for not doing more to assist black people in his own community. He accuses Hijazi of being dishonest and accusing BLM of being racist without any evidence.
Young also argues that Hijazi is only interested in creating headlines and isn’t actually interested in helping black people.
Reid-Brackett responds to Young’s attack in a post on her website called “Dear Mr. Damon Young: Your Ridiculous Attack On Me Is Disgraceful.”
